More Dishonesty From The Left

Yesterday James Leon Holmes was appointed to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas. Here is was Planned Parenthood has to say in a press release:

"Holmes' proper place is nowhere near the authority of a federal bench," Feldt said. "His infamous comment that rape exceptions to abortion bans are unnecessary because conception from rape happens 'as often as snow falls in Miami' demonstrates both his blatant disregard for the facts and his appalling lack of compassion for the 300,000 American women who are raped each year and the 25,000 of those women who end up pregnant as a result." (emphasis added)
I would like to draw you attention to two facts. First, this press release was put out yesterday, July 6th, 2004. Second, take a look at this excerpt:

Abortion gives the Democrats some of their most fanatical supporters. So Sens. Schumer, Dianne Feinstein and Dick Durbin feel safe in demonizing Mr. Holmes. They even dug up a 23-year-old letter in which Mr. Holmes argued against rape exemptions. Mr. Holmes says he no longer holds this view, and Sen. Durbin for one should sympathize, since 23 years ago he was pro-life. (emphasis added)
Now, you might think this second excerpt was taken from some recent reaction from the VRWC* to the PPFA statement, or something to that effect. Well, you'd be wrong. This latter quote is from Opinion Journal on April 22, 2003! So, we know for a fact that Mr. Holmes has disavowed that particular view, but yet somehow PPFA didn't get the memo. Well, PPFA, consider yourselves officially notified. I'll be looking for the retraction on tomorrow's U.S. Newswire.

A brief look at the U.S. Newswire will reveal no less than three press releases (back, to back, to back) condemning Mr. Holmes, so maybe I should be looking for at least three retractions.

I guess the thing that really gets me about this (that is, once you get past the outright lies) is that the members of the all-loving-accepting-and-understanding-Left are simply unable to 1) tolerate any view that is not one of their own and 2) will not forgive an admitted mistake.

Yet another nail in the coffin of the myth that the Left is the ideology of inclusion.

*Vast Right-Wing Conspiracy

One Hand Clapping has some comment on this topic:

Michael offers a quick exegesis of the passages concerned. One of the key things to remember is that Paul admonished wives to submit to their husbands in the same way the Church submits to Christ. And husbands are to love their wives in the same way that Christ loved the Church and gave his life for its sake.
